“Fashion Tales” is a new column for Miss Tweed by Catherine Lebrun, formerly in charge of heritage at Chloé. The column analyzes news through the prism of history. Diving into the past helps to understand the present and the future: if you want to know where to go, it’s always good to remember where you came from. This is Lebrun’s inaugural column.
The British designer Sarah Burton was named creative director at Givenchy this week. Burton previously served as creative director at Alexander McQueen, where she was the designer’s right-hand. Will she restore Givenchy’s timeless elegance with a modern twist, or will she go full McQueen, with his trademark animal flamboyance and dark romance? Riccardo Tisci’s rock chic worked at Givenchy for a while but the Italian designer wore it out, while Matthew Williams’ watered down, less mature version didn’t convince buyers.
