Chopard and Patek Philippe are high up on the wishlist of LVMH CEO and controlling shareholder Bernard Arnault. They are among the last major independent watch and jewelry makers. There has been recurring speculation about LVMH’s eagerness to acquire them to build scale and better compete with giant Rolex and archrival Richemont, owner of Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels and watch brands Vacheron Constantin and IWC.
