Online retailer WatchBox buys majority stake in Swiss niche brand De Bethune
WatchBox, the fast-growing online retailer of pre-owned luxury watches, will announce on Tuesday Aug. 31 the acquisition of a majority stake in Swiss watchmaker De Bethune, sources with first-hand knowledge of the talks have told Miss Tweed. The transaction will be unveiled at the Geneva Watch Days, the annual trade show for small watchmakers and a few big ones like Breitling and Bulgari that kicked off on Monday. The deal is a sign of the growing popularity some small independent high-end Swiss watchmakers are enjoying among collectors and connoisseurs.
