Kering CEO Luca de Meo promised to double margins by 2030 and make the French luxury group more efficient and centralized, its brands more desirable and culturally relevant in key markets such as China. But the former Renault boss steered clear of providing any revenue or margin targets for the full year 2026 or 2027. That lack of commitment pushed the group’s shares further down a few percentage points on Thursday after they slid 9.3 percent the previous day in reaction to the group’s disappointing first-quarter update. The group said revenue at its flagship brand Gucci fell 8 percent and its turnaround would take longer than expected. There are many reasons why Gucci is not rebounding quickly. It’s not only because consumers have yet to fully embrace creative director Demna’s vision for the brand, as Miss Tweed explained last week. It’s not only because the brand’s leadership has yet to function as one united team and integrate new recruits, or because the market, which was already tough, got worse with the war in the Middle East.
